snow, weddings and an adorable church

Friday was a disaster weather wise. Gale force winds, torrential rain, sleet, snow and ice. Like I said, disaster!! Saturday turned out to be a wonderful day, mostly dry and bright, only raining when we were inside (who can complain about that!). Michelle and Gavan, you guys are so lucky!

The church at Ballinahinch was one I have been dying to get into since I moved to Connemara, and I was not let down by it. Wow is all I can say, it was just adorable! The church was solely lit by candles and the atmosphere in there was outstanding. Have to say, it is my favourite church by far now. The hotel too was fabulous, and those blazing fires were appreciated by everyone I think!

So here's a little sneak peek at some of the photos from the day. I'm still working my way through them all, but these have been some of my favourites so far from throughout the day.

Enjoy.

Iain and Mary

I had the wonderful pleasure of photographing Iain and Mary's wedding last weekend in the stunning location of Tuam Cathedral. Storm's were forecast for the day but I was greeted by clear blue skies as I drove into Tuam and thankfully they stayed until just as we finished doing our portraits outside after the ceremony, phew!! I hope you the rest of your day went wonderfully for you.

I'm still working on the photos but as promised here's a sneak peek for you!

monday, funday

Last Monday I had the great pleasure of visiting the J family to take some portraits for them. It was Summer 2007 when we had last met for portraits, between then and now K has turned into such a big girl and baby C has joined the family. Poor little C had a tooth coming up and was apparently feeling less than delighted all morning before I arrived but he was a great little man and was full of smiles and giggles for me!

The Beach

I have to say, we are really lucky with where we live. A beautiful mountain and lake right behind our house, a little harbour only a 3 minute walk away and an amazing beach that goes on forever is but a 10 minute drive from us. Since we got Mia it has been in our plans to take her to the beach, we knew she'd love it (and I knew I'd love it too!!) Finally the time came 2 weeks ago, we loaded Mia into the trailer and headed for the beach. She was such a good girl while we were there, though she was a little apprehensive. I knew the second time would be better.

We went back to the beach with her again this Sunday, and boy was the second time a million times better!! We didn't go near the water the first time we went so we decided we'd do it this time. At first she wouldn't have anything to do with it, she wouldn't even walk through the shallowest of puddles, so Peadar put on his wellingtons and walked out into the water, after a moment of hesitation Mia followed. And that's when it got really wet and really fun! She had a great time, and had myself and Peadar in knots laughing!!

We're all very much looking forward to going back and getting soaked again! next time I think I'll bring a towel!

-Roberta

PS Thanks to Peadar for taking these great photos of myself and Mia, they are ones that will be cherished for years to come :)

Michelle and Gavan

It was a very windy and bitterly cold Sunday afternoon when we met at Ballinahinch for Michelle and Gavan's engagement session. Getting out of my car the door nearly got blown off, so I knew we were in for some fun times! Thankfully the rain held off for the hour that we were out shooting, and we got some great photos too.

See you in December Michelle and Gavan :)

Melissa and Craig

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of photographing the wedding of Melissa and Craig. They came all the way from Montreal, Canada to getting married atop the Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare, and what a place it was to get married! The ceremony, a barefoot ceremony, was performed in the grass in front of O'Brien's Tower and had many spectators!! I hope everyone at the wedding had as great a time as I did, from my viewpoint you all certainly seemed to have a fantastic time and I'm sure it went on long after I had to leave! Enjoy the rest of your trip to this side of the Atlantic :)

switching places

I recently had the great pleasure of shooting some portraits for a fellow photographer, and her mom. Aaryn and her mom Anne came all the way over to Ireland to check out our lovely island and wanted some portraits done together while here. And they chose me! We had a lovely time on a very rare very sunny and warm Galway summer day! It was a pleasure to meet them both, and thanks so much for lunch :)

A quick shout out..

"HELLOOO!!!"

Hey everyone,

Things have been really busy around here recently, from christenings, equus and portrait sessions. I've been editing non-stop and I'm almost finished with the latest session now, whew!!

We got the planning permission for our beautiful new home, so we now have to wait a few more weeks and then we can start working on the site. There's quite a bit to be done before we can start building, but we figure the sooner we start the sooner we'll be in the house!

Back in February in Boston we stayed in the Sheraton hotel on Dalton Street. Amazing hotel, with even more amazing beds. Listening to Ray D'Arcy on Wednesday morning I heard that you can actually buy the beds on line at Westin Hotels at home I haven't been so excited about a piece of furniture in so long, if ever!! I've checked the plans of our house and I'm pretty sure the California King size bed will be a future purchase for us! Yay!!

Mia is doing great. My study of this lovely girly is still continuing and is coming along great. She's now backed for the past month or so and is doing just fine with that thankfully. She will be going for schooling at the end of August in a yard only 10 minutes from us. We'll be calling in often to visit her and make sure everything is going ok. I've a feeling I'm really going to miss her while she's gone!

I best get back to my editing now. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine of the last few days, its been so hot here!

Summer is creeping upon us

For the past couple of weeks Mia has had the great pleasure of being let out onto her paddocks, at she is loving us for it! Why has she been let out? Cause it's Summer! Never mind the midges or any of the other bugs that come along with the summer season, right here we're loving the warmth of it. I've gone and jinxed it now, so sorry to all Galwegians for the forthcoming rain and freeze!!

.equus.

I recently decided that I want to do a detailed photographic study of the equine, more specifically my equine. I have the honour of sharing my life with this wonderfully affectionate, intelligent, stubborn, confident and oh so funny 4 year old. I want to capture everything that makes Mia what she is. Her strengths, her weaknesses, her personality, everything. I have already selected a few of my past photos to include in the study, and I hope to add to them with many more over the coming months.

The happenings...

Originally uploaded by Bobbi C

I've been so bad at keeping my blog up to date, smack on the wrist to me! I have been very busy the past few months, here's a snippet of whats been happening.

My lovely fiance and I spent a wonderful week in Boston where we witnessed a snowstorm and its aftermath, cold but gorgeous! Suprisingly we didn't have a snowball fight, does this mean we're getting old!? Nah, no chance of that!

We've also been busy designing our house and getting that ready to submit planning permission to the local council. The engineer said that it would be put in either yesterday or early next week, so finger crossed for us. We'll know if we have permission in roughly 6 to 8 weeks. I have my south facing studio and office all planned into the house and I can't wait to get in there! I've started picking out paint colours and furniture already, getting a little ahead of myself but thats what excitement does!

Mia, my beautiful Thoroughbred mare has also been keeping me on my toes. I have done all her training and work in preperation for backing her myself. She is now ready to be backed so I'm very excited about that. She's been getting on really well now that she's moved home with us and everybody loves the big cheeky monkey that she is!

I've also been putting together my website. Its in its final stages now, I think, and will be up and running soon. Of course I'll post a link here as soon as its done.

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice May weather (between the showers, but it is Ireland so is to be expected!).

This is a photo I took while waiting for the vet to come take a look at Mia, he eventually came about 5 hours later, but was worth the wait!

Will update the site more soon, promise.
